I made a wish at the wishing well
I dropped my penny and watched as it fell
It made one ‘plop’ and then was gone
And I think that well is one big con!

For I wished for sweets and there’s no sweets here,
And the lesson I learnt is a lesson dear,
If I’d spent my penny in the shop like Sue
I’d have had my sweets and a wish come true.

5. The Wishing Well
(Heikkilä - McGowan) Jore gives this a 'Deliverance' Cajun feel – and it fits the lyric very well. I seem to write a lot of poems about wishing wells and sweets. A trip to a psychotherapist might be able to explain to me why that is.... --Davy

I have had this poem waiting for years, but as I went through the poem pile with the 'next... next...next' method, I found no difficulties to make the melody this time. --Jore
